The “Old Ritz” as the locals call it is anything but what that title may suggest. Having just spent two nights at the re-invented and renovated The Newbury Boston in my personal favorite city in the world I leave with the feeling of “this is the way life was meant to be”. An iconic landmark steeped in Boston history as the first-ever Ritz-Carlton in the United States under the Wyner family The Newbury Boston is a perfect blend of old-world charm and Boston colonial heritage with modern amenities customers have come to expect from a luxury hotel. A year-long renovation project that included exterior construction and interior renovations that included the updating of 273 guest rooms and 40 suites, creation of an additional dozen rooms, modification of interior corridors, and relocation of the property’s 15 Arlington Street entrance to 1 Newbury Street has brought new life to an iconic part of Boston history.
The very moment I walked in I felt like a VIP and the staff was wonderful to interact with from start to finish. Whether it was always offering a helpful hand with a kind and positive attitude, making recommendations outside of the hotel for things to do or even their wait staff taking time to steer me through their menu at the MUST dine in venue Contessa I left thinking this entire team is the real deal.
Contessa is located on the rooftop of the hotel with incredible views of the entire Boston skyline. Little personal recommendation if you are lucky enough to dine at Contessa is to ask for Mathew C. I had such a great experience enjoying his wit and sense of humor, personalized course recommendations and he spoiled me with extra must tries ensuring my need for some extra time in the gym this week.
The Newbury Boston is perfect for couples, families (I tested it out with some friend’s little ones just to make sure) and really anyone looking to be in the heart of the city on their next trip to Beantown. Whether it is taking a stroll down iconic Newbury street window shopping and stopping in at one of the unique shops along the way (Georgetown Cupcakes anyone?), being in walking distance of countless bars and restaurants or a quick Uber or cab ride away from taking in a game at the TD Bank North Garden or Fenway Park I can truly say with 100% confidence you will love your stay at The Newbury Boston.
